The Spirituality of Illness: 3 Stages — Cracking Open, Accelerated Learning with Heart & Head and Living Life Afterwards

A Holistic Body/Heart/Spirit Approach with Rev. Jody Whelden, BCC.

Illness often leads to us feeling betrayed. We think of it as an “enemy,” or, an interruption of life. In reality, illness is a lifelong, loyal companion that arrives to let us know that we are out of balance. This is true from the simplest common cold to cancer.  After the “cracking open” and getting used to our condition, comes the steady forward walk to healing.

Many resources are needed to take that walk. In this talk/discussion Jody will share her holistic Spirituality of Illness model and offers us body/heart awareness and tools. We will explore using heart-intelligence, as well as the body/mind’s intuitive-reasoning for recovery. People leave with a broadened perspective on a heart/body/spirit path. This experiential presentation includes stories and discussion.

Rev. Jody Whelden, Board Certified Chaplain, Unitarian-Universalist Minister has been in the healing arts for over 40 years and in hospital chaplaincy since 2002. She currently serves as a night chaplain at Unity Point/Meriter Hospital, Madison, WI. Jody speaks, writes and does individual sessions with people who are walking through illness and difficult life transitions.
